Testimonials

"Bancroft Students Excell in Classic Broadway Musicals"

"The Bancroft Musical Theatre program has built an impressive reputation for staging some of Broadway's best-known musicals.  This year they've added another plume to their theatrical cap with their adaptation of 'Fiddler on the Roof'."  Patrick Tracy, San Leandro Times, 2005

"Bancoft shows are nothing short of excellent.  Thank you for providing another avenue for student success in our schools." -Debbie Wong, former SLUSD Curriculum Coordinator- 2004

"I found your production of 'The Music Man' so captivating. Everything was full-out -- the sound, the lights; the sets were absolutely amazing, and the acting was tremendous! Keep up the good work. It's so good to see youths engaged in such creative activities and giving their all to it" -Andriana Lam,  City of San Leandro Resident- 2007

"Once again a great performance! What can you say? I appreciate all that you do for BMS with the Drama productions. Our kids are so much better because you have touched their lives." Dennis Berger BMS Principal- 1990-1997

"Such a contribution to the Community, to the school, the students, to the Arts and to that which is the best in us as humans.  I was enchanted by the musical; it lifted my spirits, and I felt well- nourished by the music, art, and the great efforts of the students and the creative team."- Cynthia Schulz, SLHS English Teacher -2006

"Your theatre program is one of Bancroft's best assets." John & Robin Stevens-2002

"Thank you for providing our students and community with an incredible musical experience for so many years!  You have opened up incredible opportunities for some and created a safe place to take a risk for others." Bancoft Musical Theatre PTA and Dad's Club-2003

"I saw a musical last week that knocked my socks off.  Performed by the students at Bancroft Middle School, the play was "Two Gentlemen of Verona...With a Twist". It (the show) wasn't just enjoyable; it was thrilling. And this wasn't a staid Shakespeare production;  it was an enhrallment, from the first vision of the gorgeous set to the last, carefully staged bows.  The costumes were sumptuous, the music close to divine, the choreography stunning, the wit lacerating...shall I go on? I could, and for a very long time, because I never would have imagined that a middle school could produce an entertainment so sophisticated and so wholly satisfying. I think that if Mr. Shakespeare had been in the audience he would have split his gut laughing and, along with the rest of us, would have truly rocked out." Mary Bird Letter to the Eidtor San Leandro Times 1997

"I would like to thank you for the magical plays that I have been a part of these last three years." Emily Breslin former BMS student -2006

"And the Children who were fortunate enough to have particpated will always remember. You have touched their lives in a way they will never forget."  -Eileen Johnston, BMS Parent-1994

"You have touched so many lives, lifted the bar, and shown so many families what a glorious world their children can have if they allow them to reach for the stars, and support them along the way."      -Tyrone & Brenda McGhee-2006

"Being the theatre enthusiast that I am, I take particular pleasure this time of year reviewing what San Leandro's Public Schools are doing theatrically. I think of it as grassroots theatre and, without  exception, they do some great shows. I have never been disappointed and am impressed by the work ethic of these aspiring actors-dedication, diligence and discipline. While watching them, I often wonder who among them will continue onward and upward in theatre.  BMT adds to their impressive roster of musicals this weekend with the lavish production of Roger & Hammerstein's Cinderella."  Patrick Tracy, SL Times-2004
